Hello Washington Community! Welcome to the 2010 – 2011 School Year. UPCOMING EVENTS (see below for more information) – Parent Night Out – TOMORROW, Friday, October 1st (6p – 9:30p) – PTA Meeting – Monday, October 4th (6p – 7:30p) – Dads Club and Haunted House Planning Meeting – Tuesday, October 6th (6p-7p) – Book Fair – Monday – Friday, October 4th – 8th – Fall Fundraiser – starts October 11th – School Beautification Day – Saturday, October 16th (9a – 2p) Show Your School Spirit! If you missed your opportunity to order the fantastic new Washington Wildcat t-shirts at back to school night and you want to order one, please contact Marilyn Pluth at mpluth@scilearn.com for information. T-shirts come in youth, men and ladies’ sizes. Adult shirts are navy with a lime imprint and the youth shirts are lime with a navy imprint and cost $11 each. Parent Handbooks Parent Handbooks were handed out at back-to-school night. If you did not receive a handbook, please check with your child’s teacher or at the school office. The handbooks are available in English and Spanish and give information relating to Washington Elementary. Macy’s Coupons For just $5 you can help raise money for Washington! Purchase a Macy’s coupon, valid for 20% off valid on Saturday, October 16th. In addition, you can enter a chance to win a $500 gift card from Macy’s. For more information, please contact Jean Rodriguez at jeangirl2@gmail.com Box Tops For Education Earn money for Washington by clipping the box tops off items you purchase such as Cheerios and Betty Crocker items. Put your box tops in the collection box in the school hallway. For more information, contact Mary Gregory at josh.mary@sbcglobal.net. MARK YOUR CALENDAR! Parent Night Out – TOMORROW, October 1st (6p – 9:30p) Our first parent night out fundraiser will take place on Friday, October 1st from 6p – 9:30p in the school auditorium. Drop your children off for babysitting and have an evening out on the town! Kids will be watching The Princess & the Frog and doing arts and crafts projects. Pajamas are encouraged! Dinner and snacks will be served. Parents or guardians must sign children in and out; children ages 4 and up are invited to attend. Cost is $20 for the first child, $5 for each additional sibling. PTA Meeting – Monday, October 4th (6p – 7:30p) The next PTA meeting will be held on Monday, October 4th from 6p-7:30p in the school library. Free childcare and food for kids will be provided. Paging All Book Lovers! Monday – Friday, October 4th – 8th The Scholastic Book Fair will be at our school on Monday, October 4th through Friday, October 8th. The book fair gets kids excited about books and reading – and also earns great books for the school library. Parents and family are so influential – we hope you will join us on our quest to encourage young readers. If you would like to help at the book fair, please contact Melody Seguine at melseguine@hotmail.com. Haunted House – Help Needed! Planning Meeting on Tuesday, October 5th (6p-8p) The Washington Dads Club is hosting a haunted house fundraiser this October 29th and 30th. Donations of Halloween-related items are needed, as well as volunteers to help build and work the event. Join in the fun! Attend the next Dads Club meeting and see how you can help. The meeting will be held on Tuesday, October 5th from 6p-8p in the school auditorium. Contact Sam Henselmann for information at samhman@yahoo.com. Fall Fundraiser The Fall Fundraiser will begin on Monday, October 11th. There will be an assembly to provide children with information about the fundraiser. There will also be an opt-out option for families if they are interested in collecting direct donations vs. buying from the product catalog. Money raised goes towards school supplies, field trips and all the other PTA supported events and activities! For more information contact Jennifer Fitzgerald at ftzgrld3@sbcglobal.net. School Beautification Day – Saturday, October 16th (9a-2p) Our first School Beautification Day of the year will be on Saturday, October 16th. The Dads Club will be leading volunteers on several projects to spruce up our campus. No skills are required –your help is needed! Kids that attend will be doing arts projects and putting their detective skills to use and determining the biggest litter problem at Washington.
